Greatwide Logistics Services Earns Top EPA SmartWay Ranking
September 8, 2009
DALLAS (September 8, 2009) - Greatwide Logistics Services, a national provider of non-asset-based transportation and third-party logistics services, announced they have achieved the highest score given by EPA's SmartWay program, 1.25. The rating represents outstanding environmental performance and shows that Greatwide utilizes commercially available fuel saving strategies and actively evaluates the latest technologies.
"Greatwide's long-standing partnership with EPA's SmartWay shows our customers, owner-operators and employees how seriously we take our commitment to environmental stewardship," says Raymond Greer, CEO of Greatwide Logistics Services. "After joining the SmartWay Transport Partnership several years ago, we began developing the Greatearth company-wide initiative to promote environmentally-conscious practices in every aspect of our business. We look forward to continuing this work with our excellent teams of engineers and drivers and doing everything we can for a Greatearth. The entire Greatwide team is committed to continuing to work through SmartWay and Greatearth to be as energy-efficient and carbon-minimizing as possible."
Greatwide became a SmartWay Transport Partner in 2006 and has increased their Shipper Index Factor (SIF) to the top 1.25 rating since joining the EPA program. Greer went on to say, "As a major logistics provider, we clearly understand the critical importance of this partnership among government, business and consumers to protect the environment, reduce fuel consumption, and improve air quality for future generations."
Greatwide Logistics Services has implemented several practices and partnerships in an effort to achieve and maintain their SmartWay standing. Those include: - An alliance with American Truck Business Services (ATBS), the industry leader in business consultation exclusively for truck drivers. ATBS is offered at a substantial discount to Greatwide owner-operators, and consultants work one-on-one with drivers to help improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. - An auxiliary power units discount purchase program, because APUs reduce fuel consumption by as much as 90% when idling. Through Greatwide's GreatcareSM program drivers are able to obtain significant price concessions on a variety of units. - Greatwide motivates owner-operators through lower speed initiatives; the company's service schedule and commitments are based on speeds that maximize fuel economy, enabling Greatwide's capacity providers to get the highest number of miles from a gallon of fuel, without compromising their ability to serve the customers. - The company also provides route optimization utilizing award-winning software programs; Greatwide is able to map out driver routes that minimize stops, optimize fuel purchases and reduce empty miles. Having successfully emerged from a testing phase, soon the company will be rolling out this fuel-saving technology to the entire fleet. - On-board computers that use satellite tracking to continually monitor fuel economy help drivers adjust their driving and idling behaviors to maximize mileage. - Greatwide also uses the most updated aerodynamic equipment and components. - Greatwide company trucks also reduce their impact on the environment due to the company's policies on reduced road speed and idle management. Through all of these standard practices, Greatwide owner-operators and company drivers will contribute to significant, measurable air quality and greenhouse gas improvements while maintaining current levels of other emissions and pollutants.
